Cloudanix vs Teleport.
Access proxy, or graph-backed JIT?

Teleport is one of the best access proxies ever built — SSH, Kubernetes, databases, with session recording and a polished engineer UX. Cloudanix is a graph-backed JIT broker sitting inside a CNAPP+ — every access decision carries identity, posture, blast radius and attack-path context. This page is for buyers who need access AND posture in the same product, who ship AI coding agents to production, or who treat compliance evidence as a first-class output.

The 30-second version

If you only read one section.

Pick Teleport when
  • Your primary problem is SSH and Kubernetes access for engineers, and you want a polished bastion / kubectl proxy with session recording as the centre of the product.
  • You value the OSS lineage and the option to run a self-hosted community edition on day one.
  • Your posture, compliance and CNAPP needs are already covered by another vendor — Teleport sits beside that, not inside it.
  • You operate a Linux-fleet-heavy estate where interactive shell sessions are the dominant access pattern.
  • You don't have AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Kiro, Aider) writing to your cloud — or you broker their access through a different system.
Pick Cloudanix when
  • You want JIT inside a CNAPP+ — access decisions enriched by CSPM, CIEM, attack-path and runtime posture.
  • You're shipping AI coding agents to production and need MCP-native JIT, an action firewall, and identity-stamping back to the human operator.
  • You need Database JIT and DAM as first-class products — not "database access through a proxy" with no live-query observability.
  • You want a single product covering JIT + posture + detection + compliance — instead of stitching Teleport + a CNAPP + a DAM together.
  • You need compliance evidence (SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA, ISO, NIST, DPDPA, RBI, SAMA) auto-generated from access events.
  • You need multi-region sovereignty — EU, India, Middle East — or CloudPrem (inside your VPC).
  • Your access pattern is API-heavy and short-lived, not interactive shell sessions.
Credit where it's due

Where Teleport is genuinely strong.

Teleport set the bar for engineer-grade JIT access. Three places where it earns its position.

💻

SSH & Kubernetes access

Teleport's bastion-replacement and kubectl proxy are mature and beautifully engineered. Certificate-based identity, short-lived access, recorded sessions — the engineer UX is among the best in the category.

📼

Session recording

Recorded interactive terminal sessions with searchable transcripts and playback. For SOX / PCI auditors who want to see who typed what when, Teleport's session evidence is hard to beat.

🌳

OSS lineage & self-host

Teleport Community is open source and self-hostable, and the company has a real developer community. If "must run on our infrastructure, fully self-managed" is a hard requirement, that path exists.

Now the other side

Where Cloudanix is the better pick.

01

JIT inside a CNAPP+, not beside one

When Cloudanix mints a credential, it knows the resource's posture state, the identity's CIEM permission graph, the attack-path it sits on, and whether the runtime workload has active findings. Teleport's access decision is RBAC + role conditions — it doesn't know whether the target instance has a public-IP plus a high-blast-radius identity attached.

02

MCP-native Agentic JIT & Coding Agent Firewall

Cloudanix exposes itself as an MCP server. Claude Code, Cursor, Kiro, Codex and Aider ask for cloud credentials through Cloudanix; risky actions gate on human approval, destructive ones block at the policy layer. Teleport is built for interactive humans — the MCP-broker primitive for autonomous agents is not a current product.

03

Database JIT & live DAM together

Cloudanix Database JIT mints short-lived database credentials with optional data masking, AND ships Database Activity Monitoring with live query observability and anomaly detection. Teleport's database protocol support is real, but it's an access proxy — not a live query observability layer. For data-first regulated programs, that gap is decisive.

04

One product · access + posture + detection

Cloudanix is JIT + CSPM + CWPP + CIEM + CDR + Code Security in one product, on one graph, with one billing relationship. Teleport is access. The rest of your CNAPP picture lives elsewhere — Wiz, Orca, Prisma, native AWS, whatever — and the seams between those products and Teleport are seams you maintain.

05

Compliance evidence as a first-class output

Cloudanix maps every access grant, every privileged action and every database query to SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA, ISO, NIST — and for regulated programs, to DPDPA, RBI, IRDAI, SEBI, SAMA, UAE FDPL. Teleport gives you the raw audit log; you build the compliance mapping yourself or wire it into a separate GRC tool.

06

Multi-region sovereignty & CloudPrem

Four independent regional control planes — US, EU (Frankfurt), India (Mumbai), Middle East. Plus CloudPrem (in your VPC, your KMS keys) for buyers who can't send any access telemetry to a vendor SaaS. Teleport Cloud offers regional deployments, but the multi-residency story is much broader on Cloudanix.

Common questions

What buyers ask us about Teleport.

Is Cloudanix a Teleport alternative?

Partially. Teleport is an access proxy product — SSH, Kubernetes, databases, applications, with session recording as a centrepiece. Cloudanix is a JIT broker inside a CNAPP+. We overlap on Kubernetes JIT, database JIT and broad principle-of-least-privilege; we don't try to be the best SSH bastion or the best session-recording product. If your primary problem is "engineers SSHing into Linux fleets," Teleport is a stronger pure fit. If your problem is "JIT + posture + AI-agent broker + DAM in one product," Cloudanix is.

How does Cloudanix handle AI coding agents differently?

Cloudanix exposes itself as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. When Claude Code, Cursor, Kiro, Codex or Aider needs cloud credentials, the request goes through Cloudanix — short-lived intent-scoped credentials are brokered to the agent, risky actions can be gated on human approval, destructive ones block at the policy layer, every action is identity-stamped to the human operator. Teleport's machine ID gives long-lived bot identity but isn't an MCP-broker for autonomous coding agents in the same way. See the Coding Agent Firewall →

What about session recording — can Cloudanix do that?

Cloudanix records a full audit trail of every JIT grant, every privileged API call and every database query through DAM — including who, what, when, against which resource, and the policy decision. For shell sessions specifically (interactive terminal playback), we lean on the underlying provider (AWS SSM Session Manager for EC2, GCP IAP for GCE, Azure Bastion for AzureVM) rather than inserting our own SSH proxy. If interactive shell-playback is your most important compliance evidence, Teleport's purpose-built session recorder is more mature than ours.

Does Cloudanix replace the SSH bastion?

Cloudanix federates with cloud-provider session managers (SSM, IAP, Bastion) and brokers JIT into them — so you get keyless, recorded, audited shell access without standing up a Teleport / Boundary / Tailscale-SSH proxy in the middle. For most cloud-native estates this is enough. For estates with heavy on-prem Linux, Solaris, or non-cloud Unix targets, a dedicated bastion product like Teleport is the better fit.

What about Database access — what's the real difference?

Teleport ships database access as a proxy: you connect through Teleport, it authenticates and audits the session. Cloudanix Database JIT mints short-lived database credentials with optional data masking AND ships Database Activity Monitoring — live query observability with anomaly detection, sensitive-data classification, and per-query policy. For programs where the database IS the asset (financial services, healthcare, e-commerce PII), the live-DAM gap is the deciding factor. See DAM →

What about open source — Teleport is OSS, is Cloudanix?

Cloudanix is a commercial SaaS / CloudPrem product — we are not an open-source product. We are unapologetic about that: building, securing and operating a multi-region multi-tenant CNAPP+ at the depth we target requires a sustained commercial engineering investment that the OSS economics don't support. If "must be OSS" is a hard requirement, Teleport Community is a credible choice and we'd say so honestly. If "must be SaaS or CloudPrem in our VPC with vendor support" is the requirement, Cloudanix is the closer fit.
