AWS and Cloudanix team co-authored this blog: Real-Time Threat and Anomaly Detection for Workloads on AWS
Use case · internet exposed assets

Internet exposure is not just an open port.
It is what the exposed asset can reach next.

A public IP, load balancer or open security group is only the start. Cloudanix joins external exposure to asset ownership, vulnerabilities, identity blast radius, data sensitivity and attack paths so teams fix the exposures that can actually become incidents.

External + internal graphASM + CSPM + CIEMReachability-first priority

public load balancer to routes to vulnerable pod to PII database path
exposure verdict Internet exposure with crown-jewel reach
  1. new public endpoint discovered
  2. routes to workload with critical CVE
  3. workload identity can read customer table
  4. security group allows east-west pivot
  5. owner and remediation path attached
Signals become a story when the graph joins them.
The problem

Most exposure lists are too flat to act on.

Public does not always mean urgent. Public plus vulnerable plus high blast radius does.

01

External scanners stop outside

EASM tools find domains, ports and certificates. Security teams still have to connect that endpoint to the cloud resource, owner and internal path.

02

CSPM stops inside

CSPM tools know security groups and public buckets, but often miss unknown domains, certs, shadow endpoints and internet routing context.

03

Priority is unclear

A public dev host and a public production API with access to regulated data should not compete in the same queue.

How it works

Join outside-in discovery to inside-out reachability.

01

Discover exposure

Cloudanix identifies public IPs, load balancers, DNS records, certificates, exposed storage, open security groups, ingress controllers and internet-routable endpoints.

02

Map ownership

Endpoints are tied to cloud assets, accounts, tags, Kubernetes services, applications, business units and owners.

03

Score reachability

The graph checks vulnerabilities, identity permissions, internal network paths, data sensitivity and attack-path links to decide what matters first.

04

Close the path

Remove public access, tighten security groups, fix routing, patch vulnerable workloads, rotate exposed credentials or document an approved exception.

Why Cloudanix

What changes when this use case runs on one graph.

Exposure plus ownership

Every exposed endpoint needs an owner, an asset, a business context and a remediation path. Cloudanix attaches those before the alert lands.

Reachability beats enumeration

The point is not to count exposed assets. The point is to find the exposed assets that can reach something worth protecting.

Works with existing EASM

If you already run Censys, Randori or Mandiant ASM, Cloudanix can consume discoveries and apply internal graph context.

What Our Users Are Saying

Customer Reviews

Cloudanix is trusted by security leaders worldwide to deliver proactive, reliable, and cutting-edge cloud security.

One day, I changed the password of a root account, and my CTO called me within less than a minute to confirm if I did so. I was not expecting a reaction this quick. He told me Cloudanix alerted him of this password change and that he wanted to confirm as it was a critical security notification. I couldn't believe it!

Cloudanix gave us the visibility we were missing. Being able to move from permanent access to a robust Just-In-Time (JIT) workflow has fundamentally changed our security posture without slowing down our engineering velocity.

Managing third-party partner access was once a major concern for our security posture. With Cloudanix JIT Cloud, we've effectively achieved zero third-party risk. We can now grant access confidently, knowing that it is temporary, audited, and automatically revoked, resulting in a 100% reduction in our privileged access exposure.

Implementing Cloudanix JIT internally allowed us to practice what we preach. By eliminating permanent access to our own clouds and databases, we've neutralized the risk of standing privileges, ensuring our own 'keys to the kingdom' are never left exposed.

The problem with permissions is a lot of times, the gaps are left open due to oversights from inside the organization itself. With Cloudanix's CIEM, we get a complete view of user permissions and access. This enables us to update the permissions, reducing the attack surface.

Common questions

Asked plainly.

What counts as an internet-exposed asset?

Public IPs, load balancers, DNS records, open ports, public storage, exposed databases, public Kubernetes ingress, internet-routable VMs, exposed SaaS integrations and certificates tied to cloud resources.

How is this different from ASM or EASM?

ASM/EASM starts from the outside and finds what is visible. Cloudanix joins outside-in discovery to the internal cloud graph: which resource owns it, what identity it runs as, what data it can reach, and what attack path it creates.

Can Cloudanix find shadow IT?

Yes, when shadow assets are tied to your domains, certificates, IP ranges, cloud accounts, DNS zones or connected SaaS / CI/CD systems. For internet-wide brand monitoring at massive scale, a specialist EASM tool can go deeper and feed Cloudanix.

Can Cloudanix prioritize public buckets?

Yes. Public buckets are scored by sensitivity, access logs, identity reach, linked applications, compliance scope and whether data was accessed after exposure.

Can Cloudanix automatically close exposure?

Yes, where policy allows. Cloudanix can change security groups, remove public bucket policies, open tickets, notify owners or require approval before sensitive changes.

How does this relate to attack path analysis?

Internet exposure is often the first node in an attack path. Cloudanix shows where that exposed node can lead: identity pivot, vulnerable workload, sensitive data or production control plane.
