Schedule a fix SSVC: Track

A flaw in certain Intel trusted computing software could let someone who already has high-level access on a machine gain even more control over protected areas.

What it actually does

Improper input validation in the Intel TDX module permits a local privileged user to supply crafted data that triggers privilege escalation within the trusted domain execution environment.

Why it matters to the business

An attacker who already holds local administrative rights could obtain additional control over confidential computing resources, increasing the risk of data exposure or further system compromise on affected Intel platforms.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker with local privileged access identifies the vulnerable TDX module, crafts specially formed input that bypasses validation checks, and uses the resulting escalation to execute code with higher privileges inside the trusted domain.

How to fix it

Upgrade the Intel TDX module software to version 1.5.05.46.698 or later; apply vendor-supplied patches as soon as they become available for the specific platform.

How to confirm the fix worked

Verify the installed Intel TDX module version meets or exceeds 1.5.05.46.698; review release notes for confirmation that the input validation issue is addressed.

Typical attack path

  1. Obtain local privileged access on the target system
  2. Locate and interact with the Intel TDX module interface
  3. Submit malformed input that exploits the validation flaw
  4. Achieve escalated privileges within the TDX execution context

How to detect it

Review system and TDX module logs for unexpected privilege changes or error patterns around input handling; correlate with local authentication events to identify anomalous escalation attempts.

What your security team should do

  • Prioritize patching Intel TDX module software across all affected systems
  • Restrict local privileged access to the minimum necessary users
  • Monitor privileged process activity involving TDX components for anomalies
  • Include TDX version checks in standard asset inventory and patch compliance reporting

The record

Improper input validation in some Intel(R) TDX module software before version 1.5.05.46.698 may allow a privileged user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access.
