What it actually does

The vulnerability permits injection of arbitrary JavaScript into responses served to authenticated users, executing in the victim's browser context with the privileges of the logged-in session.

Why it matters to the business

Attackers can steal session tokens, perform actions on behalf of hotel staff, or exfiltrate guest and booking data, leading to privacy breaches, fraudulent reservations, and loss of customer trust in hospitality operations.

How an attack unfolds

An unauthenticated attacker crafts a malicious link or form input containing script payloads. When a user authenticates and the page renders the input, the script executes in the browser, enabling theft of cookies or unauthorized actions without further user interaction.

How to fix it

Upgrade to the latest version of HotelDruid that addresses input sanitization and output encoding. Until a patch is available, implement web application firewall rules to block common XSS patterns and enforce strict content security policy headers on all pages.

How to confirm the fix worked

Review application source and templates for proper escaping of all user-supplied data in HTML contexts; test login flows and administrative pages with known XSS test vectors to confirm scripts no longer execute.

Typical attack path

  1. Attacker identifies input fields or URL parameters that reflect user data without sanitization.
  2. Attacker crafts a URL or payload embedding malicious JavaScript targeting the login or dashboard views.
  3. Victim receives the link via email or other channel and authenticates to the application.
  4. Script executes in the victim's browser, exfiltrating session data or performing actions.
  5. Attacker uses stolen credentials or tokens for further unauthorized access.

How to detect it

Examine web server access logs for requests containing script tags, event handlers, or encoded JavaScript targeting login or dashboard endpoints; inspect browser console errors or network requests for unexpected outbound connections during authenticated sessions.

What your security team should do

  • Prioritize upgrade or migration away from the affected HotelDruid release.
  • Deploy compensating controls such as CSP headers and input validation at the web server or WAF layer.
  • Monitor authentication and administrative page access logs for anomalous referrers or encoded script patterns.
  • Educate staff on recognizing suspicious links that could trigger reflected XSS attacks.

The record

Cross-site scripting vulnerability in HOTELDRUID 3.0.5 and earlier allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to execute an arbitrary script on the web browser of the user who is logging in to the product.
