What it actually does

The vulnerability permits unauthenticated or low-privileged remote attackers to inject arbitrary SQL syntax through unsanitized user-supplied input, allowing execution of attacker-controlled queries against the application's database that can read, modify, or delete data and potentially escalate to operating-system command execution.

Why it matters to the business

Attackers can obtain or alter guest records, reservations, and financial information stored by the hotel-management application, leading to data breaches, regulatory penalties, loss of customer trust, and operational disruption; the flaw has been publicly known for over three years with working exploits available, increasing exposure for any remaining unpatched installations.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker locates a publicly reachable HotelDruid instance, identifies web forms or URL parameters that reach the database without proper escaping, submits crafted SQL fragments that alter the intended query logic, and uses the resulting error messages or returned data to extract sensitive records or obtain a foothold for further attacks.

How to fix it

Upgrade to the latest version of HotelDruid that contains the fix; if an official patch is unavailable, apply vendor-recommended hardening such as prepared statements, input whitelisting, and least-privilege database accounts, then retest all dynamic queries.

How to confirm the fix worked

Perform authenticated and unauthenticated web-application scans using SQL-injection test suites, review application source for unsanitized concatenation of user input into SQL statements, and verify that error messages no longer disclose database structure or contents.

Typical attack path

  1. Scan for exposed HotelDruid installations on the internet or internal networks
  2. Map input vectors such as login forms, search fields, or reservation parameters
  3. Inject SQL payloads to manipulate query structure and confirm vulnerability via database errors or timing
  4. Leverage successful injection to dump tables containing credentials or guest data
  5. Pivot to authenticated sessions or attempt further privilege escalation via database functions

How to detect it

Inspect web-server access logs and application logs for SQL metacharacters such as single quotes, UNION SELECT, or comment markers appearing in parameters that normally contain only alphanumeric data; correlate with database audit logs showing unexpected query structures or large result sets.

  • UNION SELECT
  • ' OR '1'='1
  • /*
  • --
  • sleep(
  • benchmark(

What your security team should do

  • Immediately inventory all HotelDruid deployments and schedule emergency upgrades or decommissioning
  • Place affected instances behind a web-application firewall with SQL-injection rule sets until patches are applied
  • Enable detailed database query logging and monitor for anomalous SQL patterns
  • Review and revoke any database credentials used by the application that possess unnecessary privileges
