What it actually does
Multiple unspecified memory safety issues in Firefox 109 that result in memory corruption, enabling arbitrary code execution when triggered.
Why it matters to the business
Attackers can gain full control over affected user systems, leading to data theft, malware installation, or unauthorized access to internal resources via compromised browsers.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker hosts a specially crafted webpage that triggers one of the memory corruption bugs when loaded in an unpatched Firefox browser, allowing code execution in the context of the user.
How to fix it
Upgrade Mozilla Firefox to version 110 or later on all systems. Enforce automatic updates where possible and verify installation through enterprise management tools.
How to confirm the fix worked
Confirm Firefox version is 110 or higher via about:support or deployment tooling; retest affected pages or use memory safety verification tools if available in the environment.
Typical attack path
- Attacker prepares malicious webpage exploiting memory safety flaws
- Victim visits page using Firefox version prior to 110
- Browser processes crafted content and triggers memory corruption
- Arbitrary code executes with user privileges
How to detect it
Review browser process crash reports, memory dumps, or exploit mitigation logs for signs of unexpected memory access violations; correlate with web proxy logs showing visits to suspicious domains around crash timestamps.
What your security team should do
- Immediately deploy Firefox 110+ across all endpoints
- Monitor for any post-update stability issues or crashes
- Review browser extension permissions as secondary hardening step
The record
Memory safety bugs present in Firefox 109. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 110.
