What it actually does
NULL pointer dereference in am65_cpsw_ndo_xdp_xmit when TX queue count is set to 1, because the function indexes into a TX channel array using the maximum configured queues rather than the actual number of queues.
Why it matters to the business
Kernel panic and immediate system crash on affected embedded Ethernet hardware when XDP transmit is exercised with a single TX queue, causing denial of service and potential data loss for workloads using XDP on TI AM65 CPSW devices.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker with local or network-adjacent access uses ethtool to reduce the number of TX queues to one, then triggers XDP_TX operations (for example via a traffic generator or XDP program) that cause the driver to dereference a NULL pointer and crash the kernel.
How to fix it
Upgrade the Linux kernel to commit 2e7189d2b1de51fc2567676cd4f96c0fe0960b9f or later. For the k8s.io/client-go package, upgrade to 0.20.0-alpha.2 or newer. Rebuild and reboot with the corrected driver.
How to confirm the fix worked
Confirm the running kernel contains commit 2e7189d2b1de51fc2567676cd4f96c0fe0960b9f, verify ethtool -l shows the corrected queue selection logic, and test XDP_TX with a single TX queue without observing a NULL dereference panic.
