What it actually does
The flaw bypasses authentication checks, allowing requests to access protected endpoints and resources without valid credentials or sessions.
Why it matters to the business
Unauthorized parties can reach sensitive data and functionality, increasing risk of breaches or tampering; moderate and slowly rising exploit probability warrants attention but no immediate ransomware association.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker locates a vulnerable service, crafts requests that exploit missing or flawed credential validation, and directly accesses restricted areas without authentication.
How to fix it
Apply the vendor-supplied patch or upgrade to a fixed release; restrict network exposure of the service and enforce additional access controls until updated.
How to confirm the fix worked
Confirm the installed version is newer than the vulnerable range, re-test authentication flows for proper enforcement, and review configuration for any bypass-prone settings.
Typical attack path
- Scan for exposed instances of the affected service
- Send specially formed requests targeting authentication logic
- Obtain unauthorized access to dashboards or data
- Perform actions or exfiltrate information
How to detect it
Review authentication and access logs for requests that reach protected resources without corresponding login events or session tokens.
What your security team should do
- Prioritize patching within standard change windows given available exploit code
- Monitor EPSS trend for further increases
- Limit public exposure of the service via network segmentation
- Enable enhanced logging on authentication paths
The record
An authentication bypass vulnerability exists libcurl <8.0.0 in the connection reuse feature which can reuse previously established connections with incorrect user permissions due to a failure to check for changes in the CURLOPT_GSSAPI_DELEGATION option. This vulnerability affects krb5/kerberos/negotiate/GSSAPI transfers and could potentially result in unauthorized access to sensitive information. The safest option is to not reuse connections if the CURLOPT_GSSAPI_DELEGATION option has been changed.
