What it actually does

Improper input validation on port 37215 allows an authenticated remote attacker to supply crafted packets that execute arbitrary code with device privileges.

Why it matters to the business

Compromised home or small-office routers can be used for persistent network access, data interception, or as launch points for further attacks; because the devices are consumer-grade and often unpatched, exposure can persist for years and affect thousands of deployments.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker with valid credentials on the affected Huawei HG532 sends specially crafted packets to TCP/UDP port 37215; the missing validation lets the payload execute shell commands or upload further malware, giving the attacker full control of the device.

How to fix it

Replace the affected HG532 hardware with a supported model; if replacement is impossible, isolate the device behind a firewall that blocks inbound traffic to port 37215 and disable remote management.

How to confirm the fix worked

Confirm the device model and firmware version against Huawei security bulletins; scan for open port 37215 from external networks and verify that management interfaces are no longer reachable.

Typical attack path

  1. Obtain or guess credentials for the router management interface
  2. Craft and send malicious packets to port 37215
  3. Trigger remote code execution and establish a foothold
  4. Install persistence mechanisms or pivot into the internal network

How to detect it

Review firewall and router logs for unexpected inbound connections or traffic on port 37215; look for authentication events followed immediately by unusual process or configuration changes on the device.

  • inbound connection to port 37215
  • unexpected process execution after authentication on HG532

What your security team should do

  • Inventory all Huawei HG532 devices and schedule immediate replacement
  • Block inbound access to port 37215 at the perimeter for any remaining units
  • Monitor EPSS and exploit availability; treat as high priority given stable high exploit probability

The record

Huawei HG532 with some customized versions has a remote code execution vulnerability. An authenticated attacker could send malicious packets to port 37215 to launch attacks. Successful exploit could lead to the remote execution of arbitrary code.
