What it actually does

ANGLE graphics layer failed to initialize parameters, resulting in reads from uninitialized memory that can expose sensitive data to a web origin.

Attackers may obtain memory contents that include credentials, session tokens, or other private information processed by the browser, increasing risk of account takeover or data leakage across user populations.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker hosts a malicious page that exercises WebGL/ANGLE paths; the missing initialization causes the browser to return uninitialized memory to JavaScript, which the attacker then exfiltrates. Threat actor campaigns referenced in 2024 zero-day exploitation activity have targeted similar browser memory disclosure issues.

How to fix it

Upgrade Firefox to 129 or later, Firefox ESR to 115.14 or 128.1 or later, Thunderbird to 115.14 or 128.1 or later. On Debian 13 systems update the affected package to version 6.10.3-1.

Confirm installed browser and graphics package versions match or exceed the fixed releases listed above; re-test WebGL workloads to ensure no memory disclosure occurs.

1. Attacker crafts and hosts malicious webpage using WebGL APIs

3. Uninitialized memory is read and returned to JavaScript

Examine web proxy and browser telemetry logs for unusual WebGL calls or data exfiltration patterns from untrusted origins; correlate with known 2024 espionage and financially motivated campaign indicators if available.
