What it actually does
Null pointer dereference in mm/mempolicy.c when migrate_to_node() calls find_vma() on an address space with zero VMAs, leading to a kernel oops on NULL dereference.
Why it matters to the business
Local denial of service via kernel panic on systems allowing unprivileged use of the migrate_pages syscall; patch urgency is low given stable low EPSS and no KEV listing.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker invokes the migrate_pages system call against a process whose memory map contains no VMAs; the kernel path in do_migrate_pages assumes at least one VMA exists, calls find_vma which returns NULL, then dereferences it causing a general protection fault.
How to fix it
Upgrade the Linux kernel to a commit containing a13b2b9b0b0b04612c7d81e3b3dfb485c5f7abc3 or later; for affected Ubuntu packages apply the listed fixed dwarfutils builds if applicable in the distribution.
How to confirm the fix worked
Confirm the running kernel contains the fix commit or version string; attempt to reproduce the original syz-executor reproducer and verify no NULL dereference occurs.
