What it actually does
When a phantom pipe is programmed in the AMD display DML2.1 code path, cursor_width explicitly set to 0 causes an unsigned integer shift calculation to underflow and produce an enormous shift exponent, triggering a UBSAN shift-out-of-bounds check in calculate_cursor_req_attributes.
Why it matters to the business
Systems using recent AMD GPUs may experience kernel warnings or crashes during display mode changes or desktop compositing, leading to reduced graphics stability and potential user session disruption; the large number of Linux kernel dependents increases exposure across servers and workstations.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker with local user privileges triggers graphics operations that cause the DCN4 display validation path to enter the phantom-pipe cursor calculation; no remote vector or privilege escalation is present, and no named threat actors have been observed exploiting this specific flaw.
How to fix it
Update the Linux kernel to version 6.11.3 or later, or apply the commit 27bc3da5eae57e3af8f5648b4498ffde48781434 from the stable git tree; rebuild and reboot after installing the fixed package.
How to confirm the fix worked
Confirm the running kernel contains the guard added before the cursor-size calculation; verify that UBSAN reports no longer appear when exercising dml21_validate or dcn401_validate_bandwidth under normal desktop workloads.

- Obtain local user access on an affected Linux system with AMD display hardware
- Perform display operations that invoke dml2_validate or dc_update_planes_and_stream
- Reach the phantom-pipe code path with cursor_width forced to zero
