What it actually does

Unsanitized input during the Dolibarr installation process permits command injection, allowing an adjacent-network attacker to execute arbitrary operating-system commands.

Why it matters to the business

Successful exploitation can result in full compromise of the ERP/CRM server, data theft, or ransomware deployment; the vulnerability affects all organizations still running versions prior to the patched commit and carries a low but non-zero exploitation probability.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker on the same network segment supplies a malicious payload in one of the installation fields; because the input is not sanitized before being passed to a system command, the payload is executed with the privileges of the web-server process, granting remote code execution without authentication.

How to fix it

Upgrade Dolibarr to the commit 45d56dffd284f80de1f14466051a2ee14bdd7132 or later; if an upgrade is not immediately feasible, restrict network access to the installer and remove or disable the installation directory after setup.

How to confirm the fix worked

Verify that the running codebase contains commit 45d56dffd284f80de1f14466051a2ee14bdd7132; confirm the installer no longer passes unsanitized user input to system commands by reviewing the changed files and re-testing the installation flow with injection payloads.

Typical attack path

  1. Gain adjacent network access to the Dolibarr installation host
  2. Reach the web installer interface before or during initial setup
  3. Submit a crafted string containing command-injection syntax in an installation parameter
  4. Trigger execution of the unsanitized input by the installer script
  5. Obtain a shell or execute further commands on the host

How to detect it

Review web-server and application logs for unexpected system-command execution or error messages during installation; look for unusual processes spawned by the web-server user around the time of any installation activity.

What your security team should do

  • Immediately upgrade all Dolibarr instances to the fixed commit
  • Restrict installation endpoints to trusted networks only
  • Monitor for any post-installation attempts to reach installer scripts
  • Include Dolibarr in the next patch-cycle scan and asset inventory review

The record

Lack of sanitization during Installation Process in Dolibarr ERP CRM up to version 19.0.0 allows an attacker with adjacent access to the network to execute arbitrary code via a specifically crafted input.
