Memory safety bugs resulting in memory corruption that can be leveraged to execute arbitrary code within the browser or email client process.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker crafts malicious web content or email that triggers one of the memory corruption conditions; with sufficient effort the corruption is turned into code execution, allowing the attacker to run arbitrary payloads in the context of the vulnerable Firefox or Thunderbird process.

How to fix it

Upgrade Firefox to version 123 or later, Firefox ESR to 115.8 or later, and Thunderbird to 115.8 or later.

How to confirm the fix worked

Verify that installed versions are at or above the fixed releases by inspecting the application About dialog or running version queries against fleet management tools.

Typical attack path

1. Deliver malicious HTML, JavaScript, or email content to the target
2. Trigger the memory safety flaw to corrupt process memory
3. Achieve arbitrary code execution within the browser or Thunderbird process
4. Install additional malware or exfiltrate user data

How to detect it

Review browser process crash logs and memory dumps for corruption signatures; correlate with web request or email delivery logs around the time of any unexpected process terminations.
