What it actually does

Multiple unspecified memory safety bugs that manifest as memory corruption, enabling potential arbitrary code execution when triggered in the browser or mail client process.

Why it matters to the business

Remote attackers could gain full control of user workstations running unpatched versions, risking credential theft, data exfiltration, or malware deployment; however the two-year-old disclosure, low EPSS, and absence from KEV indicate limited active threat and low urgency for most environments today.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker hosts a specially crafted web page or email attachment that, when rendered by a vulnerable Firefox or Thunderbird instance, triggers one of the memory corruption bugs and uses it to execute attacker-supplied native code inside the process.

How to fix it

Upgrade Mozilla Firefox to version 122 or later, Firefox ESR to 115.7 or later, and Thunderbird to 115.7 or later; apply the corresponding security updates from Debian or other distributions for any bundled packages.

How to confirm the fix worked

Verify installed versions are at or above the fixed releases; re-scan endpoints with vulnerability management tools and confirm absence of the affected version strings in about:support or equivalent dialogs.

1. User visits attacker-controlled web page or opens malicious email
2. Browser or mail client parses crafted content and hits a memory-safety flaw
3. Memory corruption is leveraged to bypass ASLR or other mitigations
4. Attacker payload is injected and executed with the privileges of the browser process

How to detect it

Review browser crash reports and process creation logs for unexpected child processes spawned from firefox or thunderbird binaries; correlate with web proxy or mail gateway logs showing visits to previously unknown domains around the time of any anomalous crashes.

• Block or isolate legacy browser usage via enterprise policy where updates cannot be applied immediately
