What it actually does
Incorrect PTR_ERR() comparison in loongson2_thermal driver allows tz->type to become NULL when thermal-zones are undefined, triggering a kernel paging fault and oops during strscpy in hwmon sysfs setup.

How an attack unfolds
An attacker or misconfigured environment triggers platform device probe for loongson2_thermal with missing thermal-zones; the flawed error check passes a NULL pointer into thermal_add_hwmon_sysfs, dereferencing invalid memory and crashing the kernel.
How to fix it
Upgrade the Linux kernel to a version containing commit 70481755ed77400e783200e2d022e5fea16060ce. For AlmaLinux 8 systems update brasero-devel to version 3.12.2-4.el8_4.1 or later.
