What it actually does

The vulnerability exposes a channel access token through an information disclosure flaw, enabling unauthorized retrieval of credentials that can be used to authenticate and transmit arbitrary messages.

Why it matters to the business

Attackers could impersonate legitimate channels to send crafted messages, potentially leading to phishing, spam, or further social engineering without requiring authentication; the issue affects Group-Office deployments and has publicly available exploit code despite low exploitation probability.

How an attack unfolds

An unauthenticated attacker sends specially crafted requests to the vulnerable endpoint in Group-Office, causing the application to leak the channel access token in responses; the obtained token is then used to authenticate subsequent requests and inject malicious messages into the channel.

How to fix it

Upgrade intermesh/groupoffice to the commit 2a52a5d42d080db6738d70eba30294bcd94ebd09 or later; verify the deployed version includes this fix and restrict access to sensitive endpoints until patched.

How to confirm the fix worked

Confirm the installed commit hash matches or exceeds 2a52a5d42d080db6738d70eba30294bcd94ebd09; test that the information disclosure endpoint no longer returns tokens to unauthenticated requests.

Typical attack path

  1. Identify publicly accessible Group-Office instances running affected versions
  2. Issue unauthenticated HTTP requests targeting the vulnerable information disclosure endpoint
  3. Extract the channel access token from the server response
  4. Use the stolen token to authenticate and transmit crafted messages

How to detect it

Review web server and application logs for requests to the affected endpoints that return unexpected token data; look for subsequent authenticated actions using tokens obtained without prior login events.

What your security team should do

  • Prioritize patching all Group-Office instances to the fixed commit within standard change windows given the public exploit availability
  • Monitor for unusual message activity originating from channels after applying updates
  • Review and rotate any channel access tokens that may have been exposed prior to remediation

The record

An information leak in Camp Style Project Line v13.6.1 allows attackers to obtain the channel access token and send crafted messages.
