What it actually does

Uncaught exceptions during job map parsing in several methods of JobStore.java allow an attacker to trigger persistent local denial of service on affected Android versions without additional privileges or user interaction.

Why it matters to the business

Affected Android devices can be rendered repeatedly unusable or require manual intervention such as factory resets, disrupting user operations and increasing support costs across large device fleets.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker with the ability to influence job data on the device supplies malformed input that triggers uncaught exceptions in JobStore.java parsing routines, causing the system to enter a persistent failure state without needing elevated rights.

How to fix it

Apply the latest available Android security updates for the affected versions (Android 11 through 13) as soon as they are released by device manufacturers; monitor Google security bulletins for patches addressing A-246541702.

How to confirm the fix worked

Confirm devices are running patched Android builds by checking the security patch level in Settings > About phone; test job scheduling functionality with known-good data after updates to verify service stability.

Typical attack path

  1. Gain local code execution via an installed application
  2. Craft and submit malicious job scheduling data targeting JobStore parsing methods
  3. Trigger repeated uncaught exceptions leading to persistent service or system denial of service

How to detect it

Review system and application logs for repeated uncaught exceptions originating from JobStore.java methods; look for patterns of job scheduling failures that persist across reboots on unpatched devices.

What your security team should do

  • Prioritize deployment of Android security patches to all managed devices
  • Monitor vendor bulletins for the specific fix to A-246541702
  • Restrict sideloading and unknown app sources on enterprise devices until patches are applied

The record

In several methods of JobStore.java, uncaught exceptions in job map parsing could lead to local persistent denial of service with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.Product: AndroidVersions: Android-11 Android-12 Android-12L Android-13Android ID: A-246541702
