What it actually does
Concurrent LDAP authentication requests in server-mode pgAdmin trigger a race condition that binds an incoming session to an unrelated authenticated user's context.
Why it matters to the business
Attackers can gain unauthorized access to other users' administrative sessions, exposing sensitive database management operations and data; the flaw's presence in a widely used tool increases breach risk across many environments.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker repeatedly initiates simultaneous LDAP login attempts against a pgAdmin server; when another legitimate user authenticates at the same moment, the race condition attaches the attacker's connection to the victim's established session. Storm-2755 Payroll Pirate Attacks have leveraged similar timing flaws to obtain unauthorized administrative access.
How to fix it
Upgrade pgAdmin to a version containing the race-condition fix for LDAP authentication; until patches are available, restrict LDAP logins or disable concurrent authentication where possible.
How to confirm the fix worked
Review release notes for LDAP session-handling corrections, re-test concurrent login scenarios in a lab environment, and confirm that each authentication attempt receives an isolated session token.
Typical attack path
- Identify pgAdmin instances configured for LDAP authentication in server mode
- Issue multiple rapid, concurrent authentication requests using attacker-controlled credentials
- Time requests to coincide with legitimate user logins
- Observe whether the resulting session is attached to the victim's context
- Perform administrative actions under the hijacked session
How to detect it
Search authentication and session logs for multiple near-simultaneous LDAP login events that result in the same session identifier being issued to different source IPs or users; correlate with known Storm-2755 activity patterns.
What your security team should do
- Prioritize patching pgAdmin LDAP deployments given the high CVSS and observed actor interest
- Monitor authentication logs for bursts of simultaneous login attempts from single sources
- Consider temporary mitigation by limiting LDAP concurrency or switching to non-LDAP auth until fixed
The record
A vulnerability was found in pgadmin. Users logging into pgAdmin running in server mode using LDAP authentication may be attached to another user's session if multiple connection attempts occur simultaneously.
