What it actually does

Cross-Site Request Forgery in bulk user operations allows an attacker to perform unauthorized actions that add or modify accounts into the Administrator group without victim consent or knowledge.

Why it matters to the business

Successful exploitation can grant attackers full administrative control over the monitoring platform, enabling data theft, configuration tampering, or service disruption with minimal attacker effort.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker creates a malicious webpage or link containing a forged bulk user operation request; when an authenticated administrator visits the page, the browser silently submits the request using existing session cookies, elevating the attacker's account to Administrator.

How to fix it

Upgrade Pandora FMS to a version that enforces CSRF tokens or same-site cookie attributes on all user management and bulk operation endpoints; until a patch is available, restrict administrative access and implement network-level controls to limit exposure.

How to confirm the fix worked

Audit web application code and configuration for presence of anti-CSRF tokens on bulk user endpoints; perform authenticated testing with a tool that submits cross-origin requests to confirm rejection; verify no unauthorized administrator accounts exist in the user database.

Typical attack path

  1. Identify bulk user operation endpoint lacking CSRF protections
  2. Craft malicious HTML or JavaScript payload that submits the forged request
  3. Deliver the payload to an authenticated administrator via phishing or compromised site
  4. Victim interaction triggers the request using existing session credentials
  5. Attacker account is added or promoted to the Administrator group

How to detect it

Examine web server and application logs for POST requests to user bulk operation endpoints that lack expected referer headers or originate from unexpected sources; audit user management logs for sudden creation or promotion of administrator accounts without corresponding legitimate activity.

What your security team should do

  • Prioritize upgrade of Pandora FMS to the latest available version implementing CSRF defenses
  • Review all administrative accounts for unauthorized additions or role changes since publication
  • Enforce strict referer and origin validation on management interfaces as a temporary control
  • Educate administrators about risks of interacting with external links while authenticated

The record

Pandora FMS v7.0NG.759 allows Cross-Site Request Forgery in Bulk operation (User operation) resulting in elevation of privilege to Administrator group.
