What it actually does
An invalid assertion in the Jerryscript JavaScript engine's typed-array handling path causes an immediate process abort when certain malformed objects are processed.
Why it matters to the business
Applications that embed the affected JavaScript engine may experience unexpected crashes, resulting in loss of service availability until the process is restarted.
How an attack unfolds
An attacker supplies crafted JavaScript or data that reaches the typed-array object validation routine, triggering the failed assertion and terminating the interpreter process.
How to fix it
Upgrade the affected Jerryscript component to a build containing commit 15d5e8700d538935b5c411b2a1e25bcf7e16c47c or later; rebuild and redeploy any dependent applications.
How to confirm the fix worked
Confirm the running binary or library reports a version or commit hash after the listed fix; re-execute the original assertion test case to verify it no longer aborts.
Typical attack path
- Identify an application surface that accepts or processes untrusted JavaScript or typed-array data
- Craft input that violates the ecma_object_is_typedarray invariant
- Trigger the assertion failure to crash the hosting process
- Repeat to sustain denial-of-service conditions
How to detect it
Review application and system logs for abrupt process exits or assertion-failure messages referencing ecma-typedarray-object.c; correlate with recent JavaScript processing activity.
What your security team should do
- Apply the referenced commit or newer build immediately due to public exploit availability
- Inventory all products that embed Jerryscript and schedule upgrades
- Add runtime monitoring for unexpected process terminations in JavaScript execution contexts
The record
