What it actually does

Unauthenticated remote code execution via IIOP allowing full server takeover in affected Oracle WebLogic Server versions.

Why it matters to the business

Attackers can gain complete control of critical application servers, resulting in data theft, service outages, and widespread compromise across dependent systems with high urgency due to the flaw's age and stable exploitability score.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker with network access sends specially crafted IIOP requests to the Core component, bypassing authentication to execute arbitrary code and assume full control of the server.

How to fix it

Apply Oracle patches for the affected versions 10.3.6.0.0, 12.1.3.0.0, 12.2.1.3.0, 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.1.0.0; upgrade golang-1.15 (Debian:11) to 1.15.15-1~deb11u1 and golang/go (GIT) to acbe242f8a2cae8ef4749806291a37d23089b572 where applicable in the environment.

How to confirm the fix worked

Verify server version post-patch, test IIOP endpoints for authentication enforcement, and confirm no unauthenticated code execution paths remain via targeted scanning.

Typical attack path

  1. Scan for publicly exposed WebLogic instances accepting IIOP connections
  2. Send unauthenticated malicious IIOP payload targeting the vulnerable Core component
  3. Achieve remote code execution to install backdoors or exfiltrate data

How to detect it

Review WebLogic access and IIOP protocol logs for anomalous unauthenticated requests or unexpected process spawns; correlate with network traffic to exposed ports.

What your security team should do

  • Prioritize immediate patching of all listed affected versions due to high CVSS and stable EPSS
  • Restrict network access to IIOP ports and enforce authentication where possible
  • Monitor for exploitation attempts in logs and update detection rules accordingly

The record

Vulnerability in the Oracle WebLogic Server product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Core). Supported versions that are affected are 10.3.6.0.0, 12.1.3.0.0, 12.2.1.3.0, 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.1.0.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via IIOP to compromise Oracle WebLogic Server. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in takeover of Oracle WebLogic Server. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 9.8 (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).
