CVE-2019-20810

What it actually does

Failure to invoke snd_card_free on an error path in go7007_snd_init leaves allocated sound card structures and associated memory unreleased, producing a kernel memory leak each time the initialization path fails for the go7007 USB device.

Why it matters to the business

Repeated triggering of the affected code path gradually consumes kernel memory on systems exposing the device, eventually causing performance degradation, service instability, or forced restarts that interrupt workloads.

How an attack unfolds

An attacker with local access repeatedly causes the go7007_snd_init failure path to execute, for example by presenting a malformed or absent device configuration, resulting in incremental memory leaks until the system becomes unusable or crashes.

How to fix it

Upgrade the Xen package on Alpine v3.11 to version 4.13.2-r4 or later; for other distributions, apply the upstream kernel fix present in 5.6 and later. Reboot after the package update to load the corrected driver.

How to confirm the fix worked

Confirm the running kernel or Xen package version is at or above the stated fixed release; inspect the snd-go7007.c source for the presence of the snd_card_free call on the error path; monitor kernel memory statistics for stabilization after device initialization attempts.
